Fort Lauderdale, FL --- The Girl Scouts of Broward County, Inc. (GSBC) has partnered with Kids Voting Broward to adopt 30 precincts for the Gubernatorial election on Tuesday, November 5, 2002.
In the aftermath of September 11, 2001 patriotism has surged. However, it means nothing to wave a flag if citizens waive their voting rights. On November 5, Kids Voting Broward will organize an election for 275,000 Broward students to initiate a life-long habit of voting and voice their opinions on realistic ballots at regular voting precincts.
Twenty-five individual area Girl Scout troops have adopted more than 30 precincts in Broward County. Girl Scouts will help students learn about the electoral process and coordinate the student election process at each adopted polling location. This activity allows Girl Scouts to fulfill most of the requirements for the “Citizens Near and Far” and “Model Citizen” badges.
In 1998, over 40,000 students took part in the Kids Voting Gubernatorial election and more than 50,000 student are expected to take part this year.
