Girl Scouts promote visibility by inviting adults to “be a girl again”
Parkland, FL --- In an effort to raise community visibility and increase awareness, the Girl Scouts of Broward County (a.k.a. GSBC) is inviting women all over Broward, to be a girl again. This event will offer guests a chance to experience Girl Scouting as any one of the local 9,100 girls do everyday. The event is called “Be A Girl Again” and will take place on Thursday, November 18 from 6:30 –8:30 p.m. at the GSBC “urban” campsite in Parkland, called Camp Telogia.
Like girls at a Girl Scout “Camporee” guests will sing songs, make crafts, cook s’mores over an open fire, eat, laugh, meet girls and meet adult volunteer Leaders. And while designed to give guests a “blast form the past” the Girl Scouts hopes to meet new women who never had the opportunity to be a Girl Scout as a child.
“I always wanted to be a Girl Scout when I was a girl, “ said GSBC Executive Director Leslie Roth, “my cousin Helene was a Girl Scout and I was so jealous! This event is perfect for anyone who wants to relive their Girl Scouts days or finally get their chance to see what it’s all about.”
This is the first of a series of “Be A Girl Again” events that the Girl Scouts hope will bring Girl Scout programs and opportunities into the public spotlight. The hope is to get more adults involved in the organization in order to serve more girls.
“We need to make new friends and let everyone know that the Girl Scouts is still here after 53 years and that we are serving our youth and doing many important things for this community,” said Roth.
One of the lead sponsors of “Be A Girl Again” and local GSBC supporter is Maroone/AutoNation. Vice President of Corporate Affairs and former Girl Scout Gale Butler is excited about this new and unique event. “Girl Scouting is vital to communities and our children. It teaches core values that we all hope to instill in our kids, such as honesty, loyalty, patriotism, teamwork and community service. We need to let more people know about the Girl Scout mission – and this is a fun way to do it!”
The price of $35.00 per guest includes a light dinner and make-your-own-s’mores. Reservations must be pre-paid by November 12 and all major credit cards are accepted, as well as checks by mail.
Founded locally in 1951, today the Girl Scouts of Broward County, Inc. serves more than 9,100 girls and 4,500 adult volunteers.
