Realignment News: Town Hall Meeting Join us on Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the GSLEC for the Town Hall meeting. We will be discussing Realignment updates, have a special presentation of the new Girl Scout Leadership Program where you will learn about pathways and journeys, the new program levels and have a chance to hear from staff and volunteers who attended the GSUSA spring conference, and much more exciting information. Our final OGF meeting of the 07-08 year is going to be the best night of the year! Girl Scouts ages 11-17 are invited to compete in, “Girl Scout Idol!” This will be a karaoke-style-sing-off-competition with audience, judges, and big prizes on Monday, May 19 from 7 – 9 PM at the GSLEC. (This event date REPLACES the May 12 meeting date.) Girls – both wishing to “compete” with a song and those who want to fill the audience to cheer – should register now! We must have a minimum of 8 performers. Top prize is the “Ultimate-Night-Out Package” with gift certificates for movies, dinner and Starbucks – plus the title of “Girl Scout Idol!” Second and Third Place will also be awarded. Cost is $4 per girl and includes the Idol-sing-off and pizza dinner with dessert. Deadline to register is May 16 by 3 PM. Performance songs (i.e. title) must be pre-registered with the name of the girl singing that song. One song per girl. All songs will be pre-approved by volunteers and staff. This is going to be the night to SING & SHINE! Don’t miss it! Contact Calandra Hickson at ext. 214 to register. Trees For Telogia We have extended our 2008 Trees for Telogia deadline, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to help re-tree Camp Telogia! Sabal Palms cost only $200 each and Gumbo Limbo’s are $400. Not only do you get the warm, fuzzy feeling that comes from doing a great thing, but you will also be invited to the 2008 Tree Dedication ceremony, details TBA. A special sign will be created to recognize “your tree” at Camp Telogia, and you will have the opportunity to choose your tree. Don’t miss out! For more details or to sponsor a tree, please contact Ann Willett at ext. 225. Summertime Fun! Looking forward to summer vacation? Planning an awesome summer full of sun and fun? Don’t forget to go online and check out all the really cool programs that have been planned for the girls this summer. There is everything from “Wacky Olympics” to Campfires and “Turtle-riffic” to “Guts”. And, if you are looking for more fun ideas and activities, go the Girl Scouts of Palm Glades website at www.gspgc.org and see all the great programs that they have to offer this summer. Here are just a few of the fun and exciting summer programs you can participate in: Camp Nocatee’s ‘Wacky Olympics” Resident Camp Who: Brownies, Juniors, & Older Girls (Senior PA’s and CIT and ACIT II must have completed 10th grade) Where: Camp Nocatee, Clewiston When: Saturday, June 7 – Saturday June 14 Cost: $300 per girl Soon the entire Girl Scout Olympian team will be on the road to Nocatee Village for the opening of the “Wacky Olympics” for our 2008 summer resident camp. The Olympians will depart by bus from the GSLEC on Saturday morning, June 7th carrying not only the girls but the Olympic Torch as they begin the journey in their quest for gold! The Olympians will also enjoy the beautiful setting of Nocatee Village while hiking, exploring, learning about nature, shopping at the trading post and making take home items at the arts and crafts dome. Plus – count on fun activities for all skill levels – such as the javelin, shot put, hurdles, curling, and track and field races and relays. Swimming, canoeing and other water sports will also be included. At the closing ceremony, all Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals will be given out to the Olympians for each of the events. The girls will return by bus to the GSLEC on Saturday, June 14th with golden memories. Price includes a commemorative t-shirt. Camp Telogia’s “Pirates of Telogia” Who: Juniors (4th – 6th grade) Where: Camp Telogia in Parkland When: Fri. June 27th 6pm – Sun. June 29 11a.m. Cost: $50 per girl Ahoy there matey! Come aboard and experience an adventurous weekend with other swashbucklers as we hunt for treasures, capture ships, and have marvelous water battles. Campers will look, talk, and act like pirates – and sing like pirates with Polly the Parrot. Make your own pirate flags and learn how to signal other buccaneers from on deck! Be ready for a night of high-sea takes around the campfire, telling stories about hidden treasure or maybe even walking the plank! Price includes a commemorative t-shirt. The fee will be refunded in the form of a voucher to use in the Council Shoppe upon completion of training. Leader Weekend 2009 Yes we are already thinking about it, and so should you! August 11 is the first meeting for Leader Weekend 2009 workshop instructors. Leader Weekend 2009 will be February 13 - 15, 2009. Put these dates on your calendar now. The Leader Weekend Committee is looking for talented people who have a skill to share with all of the Adult Volunteers of GSSEF who will be attending Leader Weekend.
