For Immediate Release: January 20, 2005
OAKLAND PARK, FL – When the Girl Scouts of Broward County, Inc. launches its 2005 Cookie Sale Program Activity on Thursday, January 20 it will be to the tune of “Happy Birthday.”
A true Girl Scout original, the 2 ½ -inch round, striped Samoas® cookies will turn 30 in 2005. But customers needn’t worry; only the recipe is 30 years old. Since 1975, Little Brownie Bakers (official bakery of Girl Scout cookies) have been making Samoas® in the same old-fashioned way with the same classic recipe. In the 30-year history, the bakery has used more than 39 million pounds of toasted coconut and more than 42 million pounds of chocolate to make these delicious once-a-year treats.
Samoas® have always been a close second to the number one selling Girl Scout cookie, the Thin Mint, even though Samoas® are often the first to sell out by the end of the 3-week sale. So, Samoas® lovers get ready! Buy yourself this gift – no matter what month your birthday falls!
The eight cookie varieties offered in 2005 are:
• Thin Mints: wafer cookies made with natural peppermint and covered with a chocolaty coating
• Samoas®: vanilla cookies covered with caramel, rolled in coconut and striped with a rich chocolaty coating
• Do-Si-Dos®: crunchy oatmeal cookies with creamy peanut butter filling
• Tagalongs®: cookies topped with creamy peanut butter and covered in a chocolaty coating
• Trefoils: classic shortbread cookies
• All Abouts: shortbread cookies with a rich fudge coating on the bottom
• Double Dutch: dark chocolate cookies with semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips
• Lemon Coolers®: crisp vanilla cookies with zesty lemon chips and covered with powdered sugar
Girl Scout Cookies in Broward County will sell for $3.50 per box. Proceeds from the Cookie Sale Program Activity stay within the Broward community, helping to provide ongoing troop funding, programs, council-sponsored activities, camping and support for training adult volunteers.
