Miami Dolphins Host First-Ever Girl Scout Day at Pro Player
Fort Lauderdale, FL --- The Miami Dolphins will host the first ever “Girl Scouts Day” exclusively for the Girl Scouts of Broward County on Sunday, November 2, 2003 at Pro Player Stadium. More than 720 Girl Scouts, Girl Scout Troops and Girl Scouting families will be seated in a special section of Pro Player Stadium as the Miami Dolphins host the Indianapolis Colts at 1:00 p.m.
As a special bonus to this already exciting day, 250 Girl Scouts will take part in an private “Cheerleading Clinic” led by the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders from 10 –11 a.m. on November 2, before the game. Girl Scouts will be down on the field, in groups by age, with between 12-15 of the Dolphin Cheerleaders to learn cheerleading basics from the pros and learn choreography for an official Miami Dolphins dance routine.
This event serves the Girl Scout membership as the organization actively promotes a national initiative to encourage and support health and fitness specifically designed for girls, their interests and their skill levels, called Girls-n-Sports. Using the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports report, Physical Activity and Sport in the Lives of Girls as a guide, the Girl Scouts has designed local programs and activities to demonstrate the benefits of sports participation for girls and why parents/guardians should get involved in their girl's activities.
“This event with the Miami Dolphins is a wonderful new community partnership that is going to benefit our girls.” said Executive Director Leslie Roth, “The health of Americans is slowly declining, specifically children’s health due to inactivity. The Girl Scouts is responding – like it always does – to what girls need to grow healthy and strong. We know from the research that if a girl doesn't play sports by age 10, she has only a 10% chance of being involved in sports at age 25. The Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders are great role models for athleticism in women and aside from being a lot of fun – we hope this clinic will inspire our girls!”
