Frequently Asked Questions
Who We Are
Founder Juliette Gordon Low organized the first group of Girl Scouts on March 12, 1912 in Savannah, Georgia. Today, there are 3.6 million Girl Scouts nationwide-2.7 million girl members and 860,000 adult members.
Girl Scouts of Broward County, Inc. is a part of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls-all girls-where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adults, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives-like strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.
What We Do
In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together. Through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trips, sports skills-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges and environmental stewardships, girls grow courageous and strong.
Girl Scouting helps girls:
Develop their full individual potential.
Relate to others with increasing understanding, skill and respect.
Develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making.
Contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills and cooperation with others.
For 95 years, the Girl Scout Promise and Law have served as a moral compass, guiding girls to personal success.
The Girl Scout Promise
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.
