Girl Scouts to host third annual gala-xy
Fort Lauderdale, FL --- The Girl Scouts of Broward County, Inc. (GSBC) is reaching for the stars as they plan to host their third annual gala-fundraiser this coming Leap Year Weekend on February 28, 2004, entitled “Leap to the Future!” The time-travel-themed event will take place at the Sheraton Yankee Trader Beach Resort on Fort Lauderdale Beach from 7 – 11 p.m. with everything from aliens to asteroids.
Led by Co-Chairwomen Gale Butler (of AutoNation) and Linda Gill (of Gill Hotels Company) and a 14-member volunteer Host Committee, this annual event is designed to offer guests an ultra-fun night of dinner, dancing and silent auction excitement – as well as prizes for best costume. Guests are invited to dress in their best cosmic couture or futuristic fashion as they celebrate planetary pop culture.
The evening blasts off with a cocktail reception, from 7 – 8 p.m., featuring a large silent auction and other space age surprises. The official emcee is local Girl Scout volunteer and WPLG Channel 10 anchor, Kristi Krueger. La Mystique Entertainment will provide live music and entertainment.
The highlight of the evening’s festivities will be the presentation of the GSBC “Change the World” Award to 2004 honoree Susie Levan. Levan is the publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Balance Magazine, former girl member of Girl Scouts, former Girl Scout Troop Leader and current Girl Scout adult volunteer.
The cost per ticket is $150. Journal advertising and sponsorship packages are available. All proceeds benefit the Girl Scouts of Broward County, Inc. headquartered in Oakland Park. Founded locally in 1951, today GSBC serves more than 9,100 girls and 4,500 adult volunteers. Girls are ages 4 to 17. Adult volunteers are men or women, age 18 and over.
The invitation is open for everyone to “take the leap,” have some fun and support Broward’s, and world’s, preeminent organization dedicated to all girls…their development, their interests and their growth into the strong leaders of our future.
