Girl Scouts Appoints Oakland Park “Neighbor” to Board of Directors

Oakland Park, FL --- The Girl Scouts of Broward County, Inc. recently named Marie Wirge Elianor to the Board of Directors at their Annual Meeting, held on March 29, at their headquarters in Oakland Park. Elianor has been a member of the organization’s Finance Committee since 2003.

Elianor currently serves as Assistant to the City Manager for the City of Oakland Park, Florida. She joined the City in 2003 as Director of the Office of Management and Budget. Prior to joining the staff at Oakland Park City Hall, Elianor worked in our Nation’s Capital as the Senior Budget Analyst for the District of Columbia. She began her career in public service as a Management and Budget Analyst for Broward County government.

Born in the Bahamas, Elianor did not have the opportunity to be a Girl Scout as child. “I always felt like a missed out on a special part of growing up not being a Girl Scout,” she said. “But one of the wonderful things about this organization is that you can become involved as an adult.”

Among her numerous professional accomplishments, Elianor was presented with the “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for the fiscal year 2004.

Elianor’s professional affiliations include the Florida Government Finance Officers Association, the Florida City/County Management Association and the National Forum for Black Public Administrators.

Girl Scouts of Broward County, Inc. serves more than 9,000 girls and 4,500 adult volunteers. For more information about the Girl Scouts of Broward County, including adult volunteering opportunities and girl registration, contact Lori Ebinger Sullivan, Vice President of Marketing at 954-739-7660; ext. 219 or lsullivan@browardgirlscouts.org.
