Motorola Hosts Girl Scouts for High-Tech Program
Experience designed to expose girls to technology-related careers
PLANTATION, FL --- Motorola (NYSE: MOT) will host a group of 11-17 age girls from the Girl Scouts of Broward County on Friday, October 20 from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. at its Plantation facility for a second consecutive year. The South Florida chapter of the Motorola Women’s Business Council, one of the five Motorola Diversity Business Councils, will offer Girl Scouts a full day of technology experiences, including:
--A visit to the Model Shop, where ideas come to life. Girl Scouts will see the rapid prototyping machines and processes at work, as well as make some parts of their very own
--Introduction to Future Technologies presentation
--Concept/Design Development presentation
--GPS (Global Positioning System) Technology demonstration
--3D/CAD Modeling (3-D computer-assisted design) demonstration. Girl Scouts will use the computer program that mechanical engineers use to build mobile phones and radios.
Many of these activities will help the girls earn the technology portion of their “Build a Better Future” Girl Scouts badge. The group will also have the opportunity to speak with executives and learn about multiple career disciplines within Motorola. As a prerequisite, participating Girl Scouts will make a technology collage to bring to the event.
“Motorola’s goals for this event are threefold: to expose girls to the many female faces who influence the technology they use everyday, to encourage girls to choose technology-related fields in the future, and to receive market research from the girls,” said Amy Tupler, Site Leader of the South Florida Chapter of the Motorola Women’s Business Council and a product manager for Motorola’s iDEN® Mobile Devices business. “The Girl Scouts’ goal is to have a fun, interactive, and educational experience in a major technology company and to help the girls achieve the technology portion of their ‘Build a Better Future’ badge.”
