     Girl Scouts tournament keeps growing

Oakland Park, FL --- The Girl Scouts of Broward County, Inc. hosted their fifth annual adult golf tournament on Saturday, June 5, 2004, aptly titled: “On the Green for Girl Scouts” at the Jacaranda Golf Club, in Plantation.

This year marks the organization’s most successful tournament to date, raising $35,000 for the Girl Scouts currently registered in Broward County. “In just five years this event has grown from 36 golfers in 2000 to 160 golfers in 2004,” said Executive Director Leslie Roth, “this event is one of our favorites…the golfers have a great time and they help us raise the dollars we need for our organization to grow and reach more at-risk girls.”

Lead sponsors for the 2004 event included: IKON Business Services, Carnival Cruise Lines, Union Planters Bank and Bank of America. Other sponsors included: All Service Refuge, Calder Race Track, Maroone, an AutoNation Company and Washington Mutual Home Loan Center.

Top team score winners were: First Place Team from Trafalgar Associates; John Baker, Tony Infantino, Kevin Guthard and Pat Shanahar, Second Place Team from Carnival Cruise Lines; Mike Stokes, Mitch Sokoloff, Rick O’Shay and Scott Brigante and Third Place Team from Nationwide Financial; Jorge Gonzalez, Todd Lawrence, Manuel Gutierrez and Don Cammarano.

Closest to the Pin contest winners were John Baker and Mary Constantino and Longest Drive contest winners were Sean Nestler and Jane Sims.

All proceeds benefit the Girl Scouts of Broward County. The Girl Scouts of Broward County was founded in 1951 and today serves more than 9,000 girls and 4,500 adult volunteers in our community. The purpose of Girl Scouting is to inspire girls with the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism and service that they may become happy and resourceful citizens. Girl Scouting seeks to accomplish this by providing girls the opportunity to develop their potential and have fun with their peers in a supportive, all-girl setting.
