"Leading the Way"

A Message from Board Chair Jill K. Holstein &              Chief Executive Officer Leslie Roth

This year we celebrate 95 years of Girl Scouting. Since Juliette founded the movement, there have been changes and challenges, but at no time did Girl Scouts lose sight of Juliette’s vision and dream. For 95 years Girl Scouts has been a leadership organization and although we are at the very center of a changing Girl Scout movement, the focus remains the same: giving girls the skills, courage and confidence to be the leaders in our communities and the world.

Change has happened through the history of the Girl Scout movement. The months of talk about realignment are over; Girls Scouts of Broward County and Girl Scouts of Palm Glades Council have begun the process of merging. The Council Realignment Committee (a.k.a. CRC) has been formed and will meet for the first time on July 28. As we continue the process, we will keep you involved and informed through new website dedicated to the merger, through our publications and during face to face meetings. We have two Town Hall Meetings now scheduled on September 17 ('07) and May 14 ('08) from 7 - 9 p.m. All registered members are invited here, to the GSLEC, to bring your questions and hear an up-to-the-minute report on where we are in the process.

Some things will change as Girl Scouts responds to the needs of the girls of today. The GSUSA Core Business strategy focuses on strategies that will give Girl Scouts nationwide the tools and focus to create high capacity councils that are more nimble, more efficient and effective, will be relevant to the girls of today and will. Build the world’s best integrated personal/leadership development model for our girls.

As we change and grow, let us remember that we follow in the footsteps of a woman who did not fear change, but rather welcomed it if it would benefit “her” girls. At her funeral, the president of Girl Scouts said of Juliette: “Never failing to follow her chosen path, however rough the road or however steep the hill, without faltering, without complaint, and always with eagerness and joy she followed the trail, always facing forward…”  For our girls, we too will continue on our journey into the future, with eagerness and joy, always facing forward.
